The Big Piney Mercantile was owned by the Tanner family, L.D. and then his son, Francis.  It burned in the early '40's.  Francis and Don Gray rebuilt it and it continued in operation until 1965 or 1966.  It burnt again in 1972 then the school system later bought it, tore it down, and built the Fine Arts Building.
