Coach Joel Eskelsen Comments:

It was a tough loss for the Punchers. They had played so hard and kept themselves in the game despite penalties and mistakes. It wasn’t the fumbled punt or dropped pass that lost the game, but an accumulation of that with penalties that seemed to come at the wrong times and in groups.

Overall, both the offense and defense played well. Defensively, the entire team played well. Defensive point leader for tackles was Trevor Wilson with 25 points followed by Brady Parks and Seth Linn who both accumulated over 20 tackling points. Defensive ends Chris Manning and Zak Redden should be commended for their play limiting the Kemmerer rushers at their point of attack.

Offensively, the backs had a good day and ran hard. Linn ended with 99 yards but had many more called back due to those penalties. Greenwood added 33 yards and Moffat ran for a total of 41 to go with his 64 yards through the air. Linn caught 4 passes for 53 yards and Greenwood 2 for 11 including his TD.

It’s hard to accept games that should have been won that end in defeat and the Punchers need to bounce back and continue to play well as they enter their last two games and on into the play-offs. This Friday we travel to Mt. View for a 3:30 start and important game for play-off. The regular season ends with a last home game against Saratoga on Thursday, Oct. 19. This will be the last regular home game for a great group of senior players.

The play-off picture is still murky but looks to find the Punchers seeded anywhere from 4th to 6th in the play-offs. Tongue River and Mt. View have all but locked up the top two seeds with Lyman and Newcastle appearing in the lead for the 3rd and 4th home spots. This week’s results should clear up the play-offs a week before the season ends.
